Microhematocrit centrifuges are intended to aid in the diagnosis of blood disorders and diseases. By applying centrifugal force, it is possible to separate suspended particles in a fluid or to separate liquids that have different densities. In particular, microhematicrit centrifuges can be used to determine the ratio of the volume of red blood cells to the total volume of blood (hematocrit). Because microhematocrit centrifuges use microcapillary tubes to hold samples, very small samples of blood are required for testing.
